Our Story

1970

Sabre Yacht’s founder, Roger Hewson, constructs the first Sabre 28-foot sailing vessel. Built using production line methods, modern fibreglass technology, and exhaustive market research, the boat is first introduced at the Newport Boat Show in Rhode Island.

1989

Sabre debuted the Sabreline 36 “Fast Trawler,” a tri-cabin motoryacht with the spaciousness and comfort of the trawler design but with substantially better performance than traditional trawler hulls.

2003

Back Cove enter the USA market as a sister company to Sabre, with the beautiful new Back Cove 29.

2006

After observing the success and rapid growth of the “Downeast Style” pleasure boat market in the US, Jed Elderkin establishes E Marine Motor Yachts.

2016

E Marine celebrates 10 years in business and over 50 new boats delivered in Australia and New Zealand.

2024

E Marine continues to thrive in the Australian boat market, bringing Sabre and Back Cove boats to a growing community of satisfied owners.

Jed Elderkin – Owner / Principal

Jed Elderkin, principal and director of E Marine Motor Yachts, has years of international marine industry experience.

Jed has a lifelong passion for boats and boating and started out in the industry in 1976, working a summer job at a marina in Boothbay Harbor, Maine USA while still a student. Following studies at the University of Maine, Jed moved to Florida and spent the following years working on and with boats in Sarasota and Fort Lauderdale, including numerous trips up and down the eastern seaboard and Intercoastal Waterway, Bahamas and The Virgin Islands.

In 1988, Jed established his first boat sales enterprise and purchased pre owned boats in Florida for resale in Maine. This business was a great success and was operated until 1993, when he first moved to Australia.

In Australia, Jed settled first on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, where he lived and worked as Sales Manager for Kevlacat Power Boats until 1999. Returning to Maine at that time, Jed saw the rapid growth of the “Downeast Style” pleasure boat market. This niche market had grown from a few local builders producing small numbers of lobster boats converted for pleasure use to a design standard being replicated throughout the world. Knowing how well these vessels would translate to Australian conditions led to the formation of E Marine Motor Yachts and the exclusive dealership for Back Cove and Sabre Yachts.

Based in Sydney Harbour since 2006, Jed has continued to share his passion and experience for these superlative vessels with customers throughout Australia and New Zealand.
