A pod drive system, such as the Volvo Penta IPS, delivers a number of advantages over other motor yacht power options...

Volvo Penta IPS is a combined engine and pod drive system for the boat. IPS stands for Inboard Performance System. This system eliminates the need for direct shafts, struts, and separate rudders and offers much more control than any conventional drive type.

The Volvo IPS units have forward-facing, counter-rotating traction propellers that create horizontal thrust and are designed with some clever features such as integrated exhausts. In addition, the whole pod / leg unit is flat in shape, forming an integrated rudder function.

Enjoy even more room onboard. The design of IPS allows for a smaller engine room, creating more space for larger leisure areas, or useful storage space for extra toys.

Built to be immensely strong. Together, the engine and pod form a compact, robust and highly-efficient package offering excellent reliability and long-term durability.

The IPS system lowers fuel consumption while improving engine performance. In a matchup against inboard shafts of the same power, the boat equipped with IPS accelerates much faster and has a higher top speed.

With the joystick controller, you are able to simply direct the joystick with only finger strength and the boat will mimic the movement! The twin, counter-rotating propellers face forward and work hard in undisturbed water, providing your vessel with unmatched efficiency and radically reduced emissions.

More importantly, if you struggle with simultaneously managing multiple controls, such as the throttles, steering wheel and thrusters, IPS simplifies everything into needing only one controller which makes for superior docking control.

Additionally, when integrated with the Volvo Penta Electronic Vessel Control (EVC), the system provides outstanding performance and safety. The EVC provides full monitoring, protection and diagnostics for both engine and transmission.

All exhaust fumes are emitted through the Volvo Penta IPS into the prop wash and carried well behind the boat. The propellers are positioned well under the hull to eliminate air intrusion and cavitation, even in sharp turns and during full acceleration.

Unlock unrivalled manoeuvrability, intuitive smart features and an ever-evolving range of new possibilities onboard!
